The uniform was purposefully designed to embody the force's nickname: Silent Service.
Each helmet is hand painted with the right side depicting a Virginia Class Submarine underwater and the left side depicting Navy's customary Navy anchor with the sumbariner pin integrated into it.

West Point
This year's Army-Navy uniform pays tribute to the Naval Academy with numerous special features as seen on the Yard with the first being the blue and white marble pattern of the helmet and shoulders. The stone is a prominent accent on the Naval Academy grounds and can be seen in the crypt of John Paul Jones and within Bancroft Hall. Jones – who has been laid to rest in the Naval Academy Chapel – is the Father of the American Navy. Bancroft Hall – the largest dormitory in the country – is named after George Bancroft who founded the Naval Academy during his time as Secretary of the Navy. The Midshipmen honor the tradition of both the Navy and Marine Corps as the original six frigates of the Navy are remembered with the six stripes on the helmet.

Navy wore uniforms inspired by the teams of the 1960s and a pair of Heisman trophy winners: halfback Joe Bellino and quarterback Roger Staubach. Navy’s helmets include hand-painted details to make them appear timeworn. Two black stripes run down the center with the Nos. 12 and 27, for Staubach and Bellino, respectively, at the crown of the head.

Navy chose a timeless inspiration this year in its mascot Bill the Goat. The Naval Academy appointed this goat the honorary mascot for the fourth-ever Army-Navy game, in which Navy beat Army in a momentous victory. To commemorate the win, the goat was appointed team mascot and became a valued symbol of the Navy football program.

The Midshipmen’s snazzy alternate uniforms honor the pilots from the Navy’s premier flight demonstration team, the Blue Angels. The hand-painted helmets, which feature six F/A-18 Hornets in delta formation and chrome face masks to mimic the visors worn by Blue Angels pilots.

This year’s “Beat Army” uniforms were inspired by the uniforms Navy wore during the 1963 season. The only helmet element carried over from 1963 is the Beat Army slogan on the back bumper which was worn on the helmet in 1963.

Navy's helmet is inspired by the "Don't Tread On Me" flag. That image of a rattlesnake over red and white stripes comes from the First Navy Jack, called that because the design dates back to this country’s first warships, used by the Continental Navy to fight the British during the American Revolution. That jack also has the phrase “Don’t Tread On Me” on it, and it was revived for use by modern naval vessels in the wake of 9/11.
